Dents, Dings, and More: The Dented Can

Driving home from an afternoon of bumming around Nappanee, my partner noticed a sign off of State Road 19 pointing to The Dented Can. Knowing a good bargain could only be a few miles down the road, we decided to take a little side trip. Zipping down the country road, storm clouds began rolling in and a light rain began to cover the windshield. With the wind picking up, we continued down the road until we arrived at an old converted barn. Stepping out of the car, we walked in and to our surprise, The Dented Can was a modern discount grocery store. Honestly, when we pulled up, I wasn't really sure what to expect. Unlike other local discount stores in the area, I immediately noticed that there were coolers, freezers, and even a small area dedicated to produce. While the wind continued to blow the fall leaves across the endless fields, we found small jars of Wilton food coloring. Now, any baker knows Wilton is one of the better brands in the industry and with a top brand comes the pinch of the price tag. Surprisingly, the assorted colors of the Wilton food were only $0.50 / jar. After picking through the two baskets, we threw 8 jars in the cart and continued to browse through the store. 

As I walked down the dressing aisle, I noticed that there were packages of Hidden Valley Ranch mix. I'm honestly not a dressing fan, as I generally prefer my salads to be garnished with hot sauce but I couldn't pass up this deal. I called my partner over and we were both shocked the packets were only $0.50 when they run $2.50 - $3.00 in the store and they were in date for several months! We grabbed a small handful and strolled over to the next aisle. Even though we didn't purchase a lot from our first visit, we were quite impressed with our little haul of Wilton food dye and Hidden Valley Ranch mix. Instead of paying the full, ridiculous price for only one jar of Wilton food dye, we purchased all of our items with room to spare.
